FC Bayern voices: Müller makes master announcement

Between his perplexed appearance following the 1: 3 bankruptcy at Mainz 05 and the old one Thomas Müller was about a week. Relieved, the offensive all-rounder ran through the catacombs of the Allianz Arena on Sunday afternoon and called: “Here we are again – we’ll get that thing!” The “thing” undoubtedly meant the championship. The last remaining minimum goal of the FC Bayern, after letting two other “things” (Champions League and DFB-Pokal) slip through their fingers this season. The fact that things are now looking a little rosier for Munich, at least when it comes to the Bundesliga title, was that Mistakes by Borussia Dortmund at VfL Bochum (1:1) and their own Victory against Hertha BSC (2:0) to thank.

The German record champions wrested the top spot from BVB again and are now one point ahead of their arch-rivals with four laps to go in the season. “It’s in our own hands,” said the international Joshua Kimmich: “We can all count and do the math: we have to win four games.” This time, however, it is not likely to be as natural as Bayern have implemented such announcements in the past. The Munich formation seemed too fragile in the past few weeks – and the victory against the bottom of the table from Berlin was anything but brilliant.

FC Bayern also not very glamorous against Hertha

Kimmich paved the way for the only two goals of the game for Serge Gnabry and Kingsley Coman with two powerful assists. Otherwise, Bayern’s game again seemed less compelling over long periods. After the final whistle, however, Kimmich primarily wanted to stick to the successful actions of the afternoon. “I didn’t think it was that bad in terms of play. Of course we didn’t create chance after chance. Nevertheless, we were in control,” said the midfielder and then gave a deep insight into the inner workings of the team.

Kimmich “surprised” by Bayern Munich’s patience

“I was rather surprised that we had the ability to be patient,” said the 28-year-old, admitting that qualities that have always been part of the team’s standard repertoire are no longer so easy to come by : “I think that in the past few weeks we would have been more likely to lose our heads and start taking risks where it wasn’t appropriate. That wasn’t the case today. It wasn’t a marksman’s festival, but one more mature performance than in the past few weeks.” The upcoming matches at Werder Bremen, against Schalke 04, against RB Leipzig and at 1. FC Köln will have to show whether this is enough for the title. There is no more time for helplessness to return.
