Ex-coach Jose Mourinho is also apparently a candidate

Chelsea are said to have already contacted ex-coach Jose Mourinho when looking for a coach from summer 2023. This is reported by the Spanish portal Relief. The Portuguese is currently employed by AS Roma, his contract there runs until 2024.

If the deal goes through, it would be “The Special One”‘s third term at Chelsea: from 2004 to 2007 and from 2013 to 2015, the 60-year-old had led the units at the Cobham training center.

On Thursday, the Blues introduced Frank Lampard as interim coach until the end of the 2022/23 season. The Englishman was allowed to try from June 2019 to January 2021 and ultimately failed. On Saturday, the 44-year-old meets Wolverhampton Wanderers in his first game since his return.

Meanwhile, co-owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali said in a statement that they are continuing the “thorough and comprehensive process for a permanent head coach.”

According to the English media, Mourinho’s competition is numerous and well-known: Julian Nagelsmann, Luis Enrique, Antonio Conte and Mauricio Pochettino. Loud ESPN Carlo Ancelotti is also among the candidates.

But Chelsea itself is said to have competition when it comes to wooing “Mou”: A club from Saudi Arabia is said to offer him 120 million euros per season, like the Italian one Sports Courier reported.
