Danny Hoesen’s contract with FC Emmen has been terminated immediately by mutual agreement. The Drenthe club reports on Friday that the hip injury of the 32-year-old attacker is so serious that he had to end his career.
“It is very hard for me to stop playing football. My body says ‘stop’ but my heart wants to continue,” says Hoesen on the FC Emmen site.
Hoesen signed a contract with the Eredivisionist in February. He only made four appearances in the first team.
“I came to FC Emmen to help the club this season in the battle for enforcement. After my time in America, I wanted to return to the Netherlands and play football for years to come. I want to thank FC Emmen for the trust and hope that they will play in the Eredivisie. Allowed to stay.”
FC Emmen regrets the course of events. “It was known when he arrived that Danny was not in top shape. Together we set to work to make him match fit. Unfortunately for both parties that did not work out.”
Hoesen made his debut in 2008 for Fortuna Sittard in the Eerste Divisie. He then played for HJK Helsinki, Ajax, PAOK and FC Groningen, among others. In Major League Soccer, Hoesen played for San Jose Earthquakes and Austin FC.
