“The picture proves: There are job alternatives for Markus Söder. You don’t have to choose him,” writes a user. But there are also serious letters: “What are you doing to prevent small businesses from dying?” An Internet user wants to know – and thus puts his finger in a deep wound: between 2012 and 2022 the number of butcher businesses in the Free State is 4,388 dropped to 3,341, as a parliamentary question by the economic policy spokesman for the FDP parliamentary group, Albert Duin, now revealed: a drop of 24 percent. More than half (56.4 percent) of the companies that gave up were sole proprietorships.

In just ten years we have lost around a quarter of our Bavarian butcher shops,” says Duin of the AZ. “Soon there could be none of these traditional handicraft businesses left in many places. That would be dramatic, because they are often the last resort for local supplies, especially in rural areas.”

The liberal believes that the state government is doing too little to counteract the death of butcher shops. “Söder only takes beautiful pictures again, but doesn’t tackle it. He talks, but doesn’t deliver.” A central problem is that the companies are desperately looking for skilled workers. However, the CSU has been preventing their immigration for years. “And now her sister party, the CDU, is even demanding tax increases for precisely such owner-managed businesses!”
That won’t happen with the FDP, says Duin. In addition, his party is committed to more skilled labor immigration and less bureaucracy. And master craftsman training should be completely free of charge in the future. Duin continues: “The champion must be worth the same as the master.”
