Djamila Correia e Silva wins bronze medal at the African Judo Open – FAAPA FR


City of Praia, 11 Apr. (Inforpress) – Cape Verdean international judoka Djamila Correia e Silva won this Sunday the bronze medal at the African Judo Open, held in Luanda (Angola) in the senior -52 kg category.

Event organized by the African Judo Union, the Cape Verdean athlete shared third place with the Cameroonian Marie Celine Matia, with the Senegalese Sonko Diodo and Buet Lea winning the gold and silver medals, respectively.

According to the statistics that Inforpress had access to, Djamila Correia, who is an athlete from SL Benfica (Portugal) won the Angolan Marcelina da Conceição (2-0) in her first match at the Luanda Open (2-0), won the second game against Mozambican Jacira Ferreira (1-0), having lost her only match against Lea Buet from Sierra Leone (0-1).

Djamila Correia e Silva is one of ten Cape Verdean Olympic Solidarity Scholars seeking the minimum qualifications for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Correia e Silva is together with athlete Jordin Andrade, boxers David Pina, Ivanusa “Nancy” Moreira, and Wilson Semedo, fencer Victor Alvares, gymnast Márcia Lopes, judoka Carolina Frances, swimmer Jayla Pina, and taekwondo player Nicalas Fernandes the Cape Verdean athletes awarded the Olympic Solidarity Scholarship for the Paris’2024 Olympic Games.
