Standard beat Charleroi 3-1 in a fiery Walloon derby yesterday. That matches between these two teams are always fraught is no longer a surprise. Even after Friday night’s game, there was a lot of fuss after a photo of a dead rat was shared on social media. Charleroi supporters would have thrown more than ten copies towards the Standard section.

The photo surfaced this morning on a fan page of Standard. “It wasn’t about one or two rats, but easily about a dozen,” said the page’s administrator. “We hope that the Pro League will take action, that our club will file a complaint and that the animal associations will not just let this pass.”
The action of the Charleroi supporters can possibly be explained by the warfare beforehand: on several Standard pages, Charleroi supporters were compared to rats. Some supporters of Charleroi also came to Sclessin in rat costume on Friday evening.
