David Beckham opens up about his OCD: “When my family sleeps, I clean”

Almost 20 years have passed since the then Real Madrid footballer, David Beckham, admitted in an interview for British television ITV that he suffered from Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). «Everything must be ordered in a straight line. When I put the soft drinks in the fridge, they must be even numbers, if they are odd I remove one and put it in a different cabinet. If I go to a hotel, before I relax I have to put all the pamphlets and books in the room into a drawer. Everything must be impeccable”, he commented somewhat blushing. At 47 years old and already retired from the playing fields, the English footballer, who has also played for big clubs like Manchester United, has once again talked about this pathology in his Netflix documentary (still untitled), where, among other things, he highlights the number of hours he spends cleaning and tidying up his house before going to sleep or the strict protocol he follows every night aligning the light switches. “It’s weird, I know,” he admits. However, the obsessive disorder also affects him at the family level and sometimes he argues with Victoria because it is not easy to live with a person with as many hobbies and demands as those of the English crack. At one point in the trailer, Beckam is even seen arguing with Victoria for letting the salt out of her at one point. “I clean the kitchen very well, I don’t think my wife appreciates it that much, really,” he admits to the cameras. David Beckham’s documentary The footballer’s documentary for Netflix was confirmed last July and an agreement for 18 million euros was signed. The person in charge of directing the footage is Fisher Stevens, winner of the Oscar for best documentary, and despite the fact that the tape still has no title, most of the scenes have already been recorded. “There will be unpublished files, untold stories and interviews with people who have been part of my journey,” Beckham announced a few months ago.
