Daniel Murphy talks Mets memories and playing for the Ducks

It wasn’t the easiest on the eyes, but the Mets swept the A’s over the weekend.

They only get F’s on the report card.

These A’s could become one of the worst teams in baseball history by the end of the season.

But you play who’s on the schedule and it was essential for the Mets to come back and complete the sweep on Sunday.

Anyway, Brett Baty is coming to the Mets on Monday, and boy, could they use him.

Eduardo Escobar and Daniel Vogelbach are having horrible starts to the season.

The Mets travel to Los Angeles to face the Dodgers with Baty and with Max Scherzer pitching Wednesday after being delayed due to back pain.

There’s plenty to catch up on as well as a must-see interview with former Mets All-Star infielder Daniel Murphy on a new episode of the “Amazin’ But True” podcast with Nelson Figueroa and me.

Murphy talks about his decision to play for the Long Island Ducks this year, a potential return to MLB and a trip down memory lane to his Mets glory days.

Incredible but true podcast with Jake Brown and Nelson Figueroa:

  • HOW TO SWEEP IT IS: Pete Alonso may have a legitimate shot at hitting 60 homers this year at the rate he’s going. It’s almost every night that he hits a home run. Middle relief is a concern and the Mets need to get another reliever at some point that they can trust. David Robertson and Adam Ottavino continue to carry the bullpen, but they need help.
  • BAT HOURS: The time has come for Brett Baty. He’s hot in the minors and now was the perfect time to call him.
  • MAX & DODGERS : Max Scherzer postponed to Wednesday due to back pain. Too early to worry about it. The pitch clock definitely has an effect on pitchers. We see substandard baseball. There are more steps, height clock violations, and it’s nearly impossible to take out baserunners.

Interview with Daniel Murphy:
Former Mets All-Star infielder, new Long Island Ducks infielder

  • RETURN FROM BASE-BALL: Return to baseball this year by starting for the Long Island Ducks next week. What motivated him to come back? Can he consider a return to the big leagues?
  • NEW SWING: He’s got a new swing he’s been working on that he’s going to try for the Ducks.
  • FOOD MEMORIES: Thinking back to when David Wright pranked her in spring training. Does he regret leaving the Mets for the Nationals in free agency?
  • PLAY-OFFS 2015 : His historic playoff run at home plate hitting a home run in six straight games and how he almost threw up before games with his anxiety so high.
  • NET NEGATIVE: Reacting to when he was called “net negative” by Gary Cohen and the positive conversation he had with him afterwards.
