An outstanding performance was staged this Saturday by Cuban swimmers in the V Alba Games in Venezuela 2023, winning three titles and a silver medal on the first day of competitions in that sport.

The young Daine Pedré, barely 17 years old, was the first Cuban undine champion of these Games, by dominating the individual 200-meter medley test with a time of 2.24.10 minutes.

Pedré far surpassed the Venezuelan Mónica Leydar, who arrived in 2.28.47 for the silver medal and Angibeth Pacheco, also a local (2.31.97).

The champion also swam the 100-meter breaststroke, in which she came close to the podium and dropped her personal best by no less than a second (1:15.03 minutes).

“I am very grateful for the welcome they have given us in Venezuela. I feel very happy with obtaining the first medal of my sport. The same as in the 100-meter breaststroke, in which despite being fourth, I lowered my mark by one second,” the young swimmer told JIT.

In that same test, the 100-meter breaststroke, the second Cuban title came through Daysi Ramírez, who completed 1:13.26 minutes.

The woman from Santiago went back down from 1.14 after several years of not achieving it and was very satisfied with the medal and record.

“I was not good at the Dominican Republic Swimming Open 2023, but I made a stronger and more focused preparation for this competition. I have been training with new methods for just two weeks and the result has already come out, even earlier than expected, “Ramírez confessed.
