Congratulations to the athletes for their achievements in March: Jelgava

Congratulations to 11 athletes who achieved success in the Latvian and Baltic championships or in international competitions in March. Athletes and coaches were greeted by Jelgava City Council Deputy Chairperson Rita Vectirāne and Jelgava Municipal Institution “Sporta servis centrs” director Juris Kaminskis.

When evaluating the athletes’ achievements, one male and one female athlete in the adult and junior/youth groups receive a special award “Best Athlete of the Month”, and the others receive a Letter of Appreciation. This time, the “Best athlete of the month” award went to Nikolas Deichman and Una Ullmane.

SWIMMING

The students of the Jelgava Specialized Swimming School demonstrated good results in the Baltic Championship in the junior group. Nicholas Deichmann (coach – Astra Ozoliņa) won 1st place in the 200 and 400 meter medley, 2nd place in the 4×100 meter combined relay, 3rd place in the 100 meter freestyle and 4×100 meter freestyle relay, as well as 2nd place in the 400 meter medley in the adult competition . Christian Branch (coach – Inga Arnīte) won 1st place in 100 meters backstroke, 2nd place in 200 meters backstroke and 4×100 meters combined relay. Matīss Kaktins (coach – I.Arnīte) won 2nd place in 200 meter breaststroke and 4×100 meter combined relay, 3rd place in 100 meter breaststroke. Eli Alekseev (coach – A. Ozoliņa) won 3rd place in 200 meters butterfly in both junior and adult groups.

SQUASH

In March, the representative of the Jelgava Squash Club became the Latvian champion in squash for juniors Una Ulman, for which this is the third title in a row. Her trainer is Baiba Lulle.

FREE FIGHT

Representative of Jelgava wrestling club “Milons”. Volodar Smirnov (coach – Vladimirs Smirnovs) won 2nd place in the tournament “Tallinn open 2023” in the U-20 age group in the weight category up to 86 kilograms. It should be noted that this tournament, judging by the number of participants and represented countries, is considered the largest in Europe.

TAEKWONDO

The representative of the club “Olympics”. Stephen Krang (coach – Vitalijs Lepin-Žagar) won 3rd place in the taekwondo tournament “Lithuania Open 2023” for juniors in the weight category up to 63 kilograms.

KARATE

In March, the representatives of the “Vitus” karate club (coach – Vitalijs Mishin) also achieved success. Annemarie Dureja won 2nd place in the karate tournament “Tallinn bulldog 2023” in the U-18 age group in the kumite discipline in the weight category up to 59 kilograms and 3rd place in the absolute weight category. She also took 2nd place in the Baltic States Karate Championship in the U-18 age group in the kumite discipline in the weight category up to 59 kilograms and also in the “Warsaw Open” tournament, 2nd place in the U-18 age group in the kumite discipline in the weight category up to 59 kilograms. On the other hand Patrick Veleckis won 3rd place in the Baltic States karate championship in the U-16 age group in the kumite discipline in the weight category up to 57 kilograms.

JUDO

Two judokas from the Jelgava Children and Youth Sports School became Latvian champions in the U-14 age group. Student of coach Guntas Malej Alex Pateyenok won the 1st place in the weight category over 73 kilograms, while Patricija Gāzner, a student of coach Sergej Vasjkov, won the 1st place in the weight category up to 36 kilograms.

It should be reminded that applicants for the “Best athlete of the month” award can be submitted by any individual or legal entity by the 3rd of the following month by e-mail to [email protected]. The athlete’s name, surname, the result obtained in the competition, the number of competitors, information about the represented sports school or club and coach, and the competition protocol must be added. Athletes from the age of 14 (in figure skating and artistic gymnastics – from the age of 12) who have won 1st place in the Latvian championship or achieved success in international competitions can apply for the award.
