Chet Holmgren already trains without restrictions

The Oklahoma City Thunder have been one of the positive surprises of the season after finishing in tenth position in the Western Conference and staying just one win away from playing in the playoffs. The Thunder’s campaign can be considered a complete success, not only for having easily exceeded the expectations with which they began the course, but also because they approached it without the presence of number two in the 2022 draft, Chet Holmgren.

The Gonzaga University alumnus suffered a right foot injury in a game ‘pro-am’ last summer that forced him to undergo surgery and, consequently, miss the entire 2022-23 season. Almost eight months later, the newcomer has almost completed his recovery process and is already training with virtually no restrictions.

“I’m over the rehab part of this trip,” Holmgren said in the end-of-campaign interview, according to the outlet. The Oklahoman. “Now I’m making more and more progress in five-on-five training, removing any restrictions I’ve had up until now.”

Despite his injury, Holmgren traveled with the team for most of the away games and participated in some of the pre-game routines. This has helped him to complete a certain adaptation to what life in the NBA means. “For me it has been great to see how other teams play, with different styles and personnel,” added the young player. “I have tried to learn as much as possible from all of them and to assimilate all the knowledge to be able to use it in the future.”

During the offseason, Holmgren will follow the plan laid out by the Thunder’s coaching staff, physical trainers and medical staff. He will split time between Oklahoma City and Los Angeles, but didn’t say if he plans to play in the Summer League. “We all know that I love to play basketball. I only think about the future, when I can play again.”
