CAF: twenty referees turn professional including Pierre Atcho

These referees signed last Monday in Cairo a contract with the Confederation of African Football. They will now receive a monthly salary.

Our compatriot Pierre Atcho is inexorably pursuing his way to the heights of African refereeing. Indeed, after having officiated brilliantly during the final of the African Nations Championship (CHAN), on February 4 in Algiers (Algeria), the best Gabonese whistle has just been chosen by CAF among the 20 best referees of the continent.

And in accordance with the vision of President Patrice Motsepe, these 20 handpicked referees are now becoming professionals. Consequently, they will benefit from a monthly salary, apart from the allowances they receive at each match scheduled by CAF.

It is therefore a new victory for Pierre-Alain Mounguengui, the president of the Gabonese Football Federation (Fégafoot), who declared a few months ago that Gabonese refereeing was one of the very best on the continent. The establishment of a National Arbitration Directorate (DNA) in our country, the first of its kind, is the materialization of the project of the Federal President aimed at restoring all its letters of nobility to Gabonese arbitration.
