Julian Brandt has signed a new contract. Instead of until 2024, he is now contractually bound to BVB until 2026. The early extension with Brandt is a central part of the medium-term squad planning, the Dortmund team announced on Tuesday. “As already announced in winter, we are now entering a phase in which we will make and announce personnel decisions step by step. Julian’s signature is a first step in this direction,” explained sporting director Sebastian Kehl.

Brandt switched from league rivals Bayer 04 Leverkusen to BVB in the summer of 2019 and has so far played 120 Bundesliga games (23 goals, 23 assists) and 27 games in the Champions League (three goals, four assists) for BVB. With eight Bundesliga goals and four assists, Brandt is the second-best BVB scorer this season.

“Enormously Evolved”

The 26-year-old midfielder has “developed enormously again in the past year, has become much more focused in the game against the ball, regularly prepares goals and shines as a shooter himself,” said Kehl. “His instinct for dangerous situations on the pitch, coupled with his technical ability and creativity make him a valuable part of our squad.”

Brandt believes in “celebrating something big”

The national player himself said about the extension: “To be honest, the feeling of being in the right place at the right time has always been the most important point in my sporting life. And that won’t change either. I’m looking forward to the next few years in black and yellow and am sure that together we will have the opportunity to celebrate something big.”
