Championship door open for BVB – FC Bayern goes under in Mainz

The fight for the German championship is open like it hasn’t been for a long time, because FC Bayern is facing the next setback. At the break, Munich were still leading 1-0 in Mainz, but after the change they were literally overrun.

DFC Bayern lost 1:3 (1:0) at Mainz 05 in the Bundesliga on Saturday afternoon and, after being eliminated from the cup and Champions League, is now threatening to lose the championship as well. Sadio Mané put Thomas Tuchel’s team ahead in the 29th minute.

As in the last meager 1-1 (1-0) win in their own stadium against TSG Hoffenheim, Bayern clearly dominated the game in this phase, but failed to score more goals early on. This time it wasn’t even enough for a point. After the change, the game turned completely. Ludovic Ajorque (65′), Leandro Barreiro (73′) and Aaron Martin (79′) scored for Mainz.

Bayern remain first, but Borussia Dortmund can move ahead by one point in the table with a win against Eintracht Frankfurt (kick-off at 6.30 p.m.).

Hertha BSC – Werder Bremen 2: 4 (0: 2)

You had high hopes for the third rescue mission through the personified savior. After all, the new, old coach had already proven twice that the Pal Dardai effect can be quite large. This time, however, so it seems since Saturday afternoon in the Berlin Olympic Stadium, the hoped-for relegation five games before the end of the season is only theoretical.

Because in the number one rescue game under coach Dardai, Hertha BSC played so desolately in the 2: 4 (0: 2) against Werder Bremen that even the most daring optimists should no longer count on a miracle. Marvin Ducksch scored three times (6th minute, 27th, 51st), Mitchell Weiser increased (63rd), before Jessic Ngankam (68th) and Dodi Lukébakio (79th, penalty kick) at least made cosmetic results.

In view of the fact that VfL Bochum are five points behind in the saving 15th place in the table and difficult games like in Munich, the Berliners have to pull themselves together quickly. Otherwise, after the successful relegation in 2022, there is a risk of going directly to league two this time.

VfL Bochum – VfL Wolfsburg 1:5 (0:3)

Severe setback for VfL Bochum in the relegation battle: The team, which had been strong at home up to that point, delivered an indisputable performance against VfL Wolfsburg and lost 1:5 (0:3) and deservedly so.

Above all, VfL’s defense lacked any Bundesliga suitability, the attacks of the guests were mostly accepted without resistance before the break. Svanberg with a header (10th minute), Kaminski with a right (21st) and Wimmer with a left (34th) used this to score. Sounds easy, and it was.

When VfL goalkeeper Riemann then let Svanberg’s completely harmless shot tumble into the net to make it 4-0 (56 ‘), after his team’s first acceptable phase, the game was finally decided. Broschinski then scored for Bochum (68′), Waldschmidt scored Wolfsburg’s fifth goal (77’).

TSG Hoffenheim – 1. FC Cologne 1: 3 (0: 2)

1. FC Köln clinched their second away win in a row in a 3-1 (2-0) win over TSG Hoffenheim. Referee Braun was particularly in focus, even though he didn’t make any mistakes. Referee Brand was out with an allergic reaction and Braun, scheduled to be the fourth official, had to fill in. It was his Bundesliga debut.

Before the 1-0 for the guests, Braun decided on a penalty after studying the video, which Kainz used to give FC the lead (18th minute). Selke scored to make it 2-0 (39′), Thielmann to make it 3-0 (90’+2′). Dolberg was successful for TSG (90+4).
