The 53-year-old, who won the award as coach of the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2009, led the Kings back into the playoffs this season after 17 years in third place in the Western Conference. “These honors don’t come along very often, so I really appreciate them,” Brown told TNT. Second and third place went to Oklahoma City Thunder’s Mark Daignault and Boston Celtics’ Joe Mazzulla.

The NBA Coach of the Year has been chosen by a selection of sportswriters since 1963. Record winners are currently Don Nelson, Pat Riley and Gregg Popovich, each with three awards.
