Braunschweiger Löwen and Brose Bamberg signed new players on Friday.

Due to the absence of playmaker Braydon Hobbs, the Löwen Braunschweig have strengthened their position with RJ Cole for the BBL relegation battle. The 23-year-old American comes from the Greek first division club KAE Lavrio Megabolt and has been given a contract until the end of the season. Cole’s compatriot Hobbs is out of action this season due to a shoulder injury.
“It was a priority for us to sign a guard from the current European game and we are very happy that we were able to do that in such a short time,” said managing director and sporting director Nils Mittmann. Cole “immediately assumed a role as a top performer in his first professional season” in Greece.

Brose holt US-Guard Thomas
League rivals Brose Bamberg also signed a new guard on Friday. Devon Thomas comes to Upper Franconia from the Finnish first division club Lahti Basketball. The 28-year-old American averaged 17.9 points in 18 games for the Finns, got 4.6 rebounds and gave 4.4 assists. Thomas is also eligible to play for the upcoming league game against Franconian rivals Würzburg on Saturday.
“We’re hoping for support from Devon at the point guard position. He has the ambition to prove his skills in the BBL,” said head coach Oren Amiel. Thomas should help the Bamberg team to make the playoffs. The table ninth would have to make up a place for that. Würzburg is eighth.
