Branie: ‘It is good that Bosz and Heitinga have not heard from Ajax yet’

A neck-and-neck race with Feyenoord for the national title is no longer possible, but a new one has taken its place: with PSV, for second place and the KNVB Cup. Ajax’s home game against Fortuna Sittard (4-0) was a pleasant step. Branie talks about that sun-drenched Easter match in the Johan Cruijff ArenA and the Ajax teenagers who were allowed to make their appearance.

There are also grittier conversation topics. Because: how should we proceed with the approach to supporter violence? Much has been said about last week’s events in De Kuip, but what will really happen? Parole reporter Dick Sintenie: ‘What exactly should an incident like this be the consequence of for a home club?’

Instead, the Minister of Justice and the KNVB deal in apparently firm language that, according to presenter Menno Pot, does not mean too much. ‘The KNVB and the clubs have been arguing for years for a criminal-law approach to these types of perpetrators, complete with a reporting obligation. It is precisely the politics that, across the board, do not want to do that.’

“It’s good that Ajax sticks to the right order”

Meanwhile, Peter Bosz still hasn’t heard from Ajax and John Heitinga also wants to know if he can remain head coach next season. He demands clarity. Yet Ajax Showtime editor Bademba Barrie understands very well why Ajax has not yet given it to him. ‘There were no technical affairs commissioner or technical director yet. Only when that structure is in place, and it now looks like it, can a trainer be appointed. It is good that Ajax sticks to that order.’

Will the failed season have a (relatively) happy ending? One thing is certain: next Monday there will be a new Branie.
