Boris Becker looks back on the many mistakes made in his life

Boris Becker admits to having made “a lot of mistakes” during his life, but underlines that each of them has given him a good lesson in life. Becker was sentenced to two and a half years in jail last year for concealing assets and loans worth £2.5million to avoid paying his debts.

However, he only served eight months of his sentence, because before Christmas he was deported to Germany and eventually released.. “Life lessons. If you know your mistakes in advance, you won’t make them.

Looking back, we are always smarter. Did I make mistakes? Yes a lot. Has anyone here ever been perfect? Probably not. When you’re this famous or making headlines, everything feels a little bigger, a little more important,” Becker recently said at CloudFest 2023, according to Tennis Majors.

Becker: I wasn’t ready for what lay ahead.

In 1985, the then 17-year-old Becker won Wimbledon and introduced himself to the world of tennis in one of the most impressive ways..

But becoming famous and popular at a very young age also had its negative sides, as Becker was simply not ready for what followed his stunning Wimbledon victory in 1985.

When you’re a young player, it’s hard to manage. I made my first million at 17, in 1985. It was a lot of money. Probably even today. But in 1985, it was huge.

Then you surround yourself with agents and lawyers and you run a company called “Boris Becker inc.”, but you’re 17, 20, 25 and so on. We finish our career and, in the end, we have not studied finance or commerce, we are a sportsman and we trust the people who accompany us and, of course, they show us a contract that we can read , but we have to trust our own judgement, that of our parents and that of our lawyer,” said Boris Becker.
