Home setback for Openjobmetis Varese who, without Justin Reyes, lost against Reggio Emilia 85-81. After chasing for the whole game, the red and whites tried a miraculous comeback which, however, did not materialize. The red and whites will be back on the field on Sunday 16th for the match in Trieste.
The match is balanced right from the start thanks to “baskets” by Johnson and Owens for the hosts and 6 points in a row by Cinciarini for the guests (5-6). Openjobmetis’ attack gets stuck and Reggio Emilia, then, takes advantage of it by attempting the first escape (12-21) which is only interrupted by captain Ferrero who, however, is not enough to avoid the -15 of the 10′: 14-29.
Owens opens the second period with a dunk that inflames Masnago; Woldetensae blows it up completely with the partial that brings the Varese people back to -8 (28-36), a gap that is further shortened (36-39) thanks to Jaron Johnson. UNAHOTELS responds brilliantly managing to block again Varese who hasn’t found luck since 3; in the 30th minute the gap is still important: 40-49.
Woldetensae opens the third quarter with a bomb, but Reggio Emilia is back on +10 (43-53) also canceling the subsequent triple by Brown with the partial of +14 (48-62) which forces coach Brase to timeout. The rebuke unlocks the red and whites who find Caruso’s basket, but in the 30th minute they are still forced to chase: 55-66.
Openjobmetis starts the last fraction better, returning to -9 (61-70), but the Reggio players come back with solidity and precision from the line thanks to Olisevicius. Ross and Brown’s bombs are not enough. In the 40th minute it ends 81-85.
