Björn Heissig has been active in judo for 25 years – first with the Rehabilitation and Disabled Sports Association (RBS) Hückeswagen, since 2001 with JC Mifune. Now his discipline in training has been rewarded: The 46-year-old, who lives with Down’s syndrome, passed the 1st Dan black belt exam. An award that only a few athletes in the disabled sector achieve. Coach Edmund Tscheschlog is just as proud of the success as Björn Heissig’s mother. “He fought his way through and made it,” reports Elke Windgassen-Heissig in an interview with our editorial team, delighted.
