For Thomas Tuchel, after the 1-0 win in Freiburg, the positives outweighed the missed chances. Mainly because his team showed the right approach.

As on Tuesday in the cup (1-2), Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel had to score ten goals for the opponent when they met SC Freiburg again. This time, however, the sports club did not manage to make something countable out of these opportunities in their home stadium. Bayern, on the other hand, scored more often (22 shots on goal) than during the week (16) – and above all a lot more dangerous overall.

“However, it was very tight until the end because we failed to score more goals,” Thomas Tuchel is quoted as saying on the club’s website. His team had “an incredible number of chances”, but almost as much “left behind”.

De Ligt breaks the spell from a distance – with Tuchel, the positive outweighs it

Once the Munich were allowed to cheer. Matthijs de Ligt finally chased a long-distance hit decisively into the net. After the opening goal in the 2-1 win in Stuttgart, it was the second goal from afar by the central defender – and his third goal of the season. “I saw the room and shot it. With a bit of luck, he’ll go in,” grinned the scorer on “Sky”.

It wasn’t enough for more. Tuchel missed “a bit of precision and calm in the end”, but also praised his team for their hard work. “We were very diligent, which is what is needed at the moment when there is a lack of ease and with it the trust and creativity,” added the 49-year-old. Therefore, “clearly the positive outweighs”, namely, “that we had chances and got the three points”.

Nevertheless, “we have to get the lid on earlier,” complained Joshua Kimmich. With his provocative cheering towards the Freiburg fans after the final whistle, he demonstrated how important this victory was for the Munich team.

After Freiburg is before Manchester

Especially in the final phase, when Freiburg opened up more and more, Leroy Sané and Serge Gnabry in particular left some of the best opportunities unused. Even on Tuesday in the Champions League, Bayern cannot afford such usury opportunities away from Manchester City (9 p.m., LIVE! on kicker), and Tuchel knows that: “There will be a different game on Tuesday, different tasks.” But: “We will be ready.”

The team of ex-coach Pep Guardiola also managed the dress rehearsal. The Skyblues initially had a hard time at bottom of the table Southampton before Erling Haaland untied the knot once more. In the end it was 4:1 for the upcoming Bayern opponent.
