Bayern Munich supports Dayot Upamecano, victim of racist insults on the networks

Bayern Munich on Wednesday denounced the racist insults aimed at its French international Dayot Upamecano broadcast on social networks after his failed match against Manchester City (3-0), saying that “the whole club” supported the player.

“Everyone at the club, let’s denounce racism in the strongest way! The whole club is behind you Upa! “Wrote the club on its Instagram account.

The Blues defender notably made a big mistake causing the second of Manchester City’s three goals on Tuesday in the Champions League quarter-final first leg. “It’s very hard for Upa but his presence (at the club) is not unfounded. He has great qualities and we believe in him,” Bayern midfielder and captain Joshua Kimmich said after the game.

Bayern showed their support for Upamecano, as they had done in similar circumstances to their striker Kingsley Coman after the World Cup final. The German champion club also reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating racism from football and social networks.

If unfortunately Upamecano was targeted, it was obviously for the mistakes made at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday evening. After a first approximation in the 50th minute, without consequence, when City were leading 1-0, Upa was guilty of a poorly controlled hook, recovered by the Skyblues and finally converted into a 2-0 goal by Bernardo Silva. Groggy until the final whistle, the young defender is not beyond reproach either on the third goal of the English scored Haaland (77th).

“He made a few too many mistakes today, reacted Thomas Tuchel hotly, at the microphone of Canal +. He had two or three situations where he lacked a bit of concentration and where he made very risky decisions. He knows it, but we’re not mad at him. He is still young, he will still make mistakes. “And obviously he will need to arm himself even more off the pitch.
