Baseball BSL appoints its head coaches

Baseball Bas-Saint-Laurent confirms the identity of its managers, or head coaches, for its two U13 teams that will take part in the next Quebec Games final, in July in Rimouski.

Patrick Saint-Gelais will lead the women’s team. Originally from Matane, he has been involved in baseball for many years as a coach and assistant coach for various categories ranging from 11U to 18U. He is also a high-level coach in hockey, especially on the women’s side.

“His experience as a sportsman, his great experience as a coach, his calm and his desire to bring the players to develop both sportingly and personally, made him a logical choice to assume the role of head coach” , underlines the organization.

Another long-time baseball volunteer, Luc Jobin, will be at the helm of the men’s roster. Originally from Rimouski, he has been the head coach of the Riverains 13U AA de l’Est team for 6 years. He previously worked as a head coach at the 15U AA level.

“A teacher by profession, Luc has several qualities that correspond to the duties of a coach. His dynamism, his passion and his knowledge of the game make him a logical choice to assume this position”, mentions Baseball BSL.

The indoor selection camp has been going on for the girls for several weeks. For the boys, it will get under way once the two U13 AA teams in the region, including the Riverains of the Eastern sector, have been formed, ie by mid-May. The parts of the calendar between the two teams will be used by the staff of instructors to make the first analyses. Practices will follow to finalize the selection.

Age of players

The change in the age division at the games (formerly 15U and now 13U) as well as the possibility of fielding one or more 14-year-old athletes lead to some clarifications.

An athlete must be born between January 1, 2010 and July 15, 2011 to be eligible for the Games in Rimouski. The particularity of July 15 is exclusive for a 12-year-old athlete born in 2011. SportsQuébec requires that the athlete have reached his “12 years” on this date in order to be eligible.

Also, Baseball Quebec introduces the privilege to certain administrative regions to field one, two or three 14-year-old athletes, born in 2009. This privilege is devolved according to the positioning of the teams in the five sections playing during the Games.

Our region will be entitled to a player of 14 for the boys and three for the girls.

The men’s tournament will be held from July 22 to 25 and the women’s section will follow from July 26 to 29. In both cases, the games will be played on the three baseball diamonds of the Complexe sportif Guillaume-Leblanc.
