Bagnaia snatches MotoGP pole position from Rins at COTA

The Italian rider Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) has achieved this Saturday the ‘pole position’ in the MotoGP category during the Grand Prix of the Americas, third round of the World Championship, while the Spanish Álex Rins (Honda) and the also Italian Luca Marini (Ducati) were second and third, respectively.

On the asphalt of COTA in Austin (United States), with no threat of rain, Bagnaia set a best time of 2:01.892. For his part, Rins did his best lap in 2:02.052 and Marini in 2:02.181. At 0.350 from the man on pole, fourth place was occupied by the also Spanish Álex Márquez (Ducati).

Throughout Q2, with 10 minutes left to finish, there was a yellow flag on the track due to a crash by another Spaniard, Jorge Martín (Ducati), who had dominated Friday’s practice session. Martín crashed this time in turn 7, within sector 2; to top it off, he later repeated the crash with the spare bike.

To access this Q2 that determined the grid, before in Q1 the Frenchman Johann Zarco (Ducati) had obtained his ticket, first with 2:02.387, and the Italian Marco Bezzecchi (Ducati), second with 2:02.523.
