ATP Race. Medvedev leads the solo race

With variations week by week in the Ranking ATPthe first points distributed these months of the season leave the race towards Turin with Daniil Medvedev as the only leader who could face some complications in that race on the clay court tour that starts right now. On the list, the Russian is followed by Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz.

A SPECTACULAR STREAK, ALTHOUGH WITH SOME CRACKS

His first weeks of the year in Australia left some details that could predict his good performance on hard courts, but in the first Grand Slam of the year, where he also defended the final, he lost in the third round to Sebastian Korda in what could be called a surprising defeat for the Russian.

Even so, Medvedev was back from injury and was still looking for the sensations he would find a few weeks later. With victories in Rotterdam, Doha and Dubai, Daniil made it clear that he was back to stay at the top of the circuit. Among these three titles, the victory over Novak Djokovic stands out, which surely meant a great boost of confidence and security to continue adding results.

And so it was in the first two Masters 1000 of the season. In Indian Wells, Carlos Alcaraz was in charge of getting rid of him with a very comfortable final result. However, the matter changed at the Miami Open 2023, a tournament in which Daniil wanted to redeem himself from that defeat and win the title, leaving only one set on the way. With this latest victory, Medvedev is positioned first in the ATP Race with 3030 points.

NOVAK DJOKOVIC, WITH OPTIONS TO OVERCOME HIM

The fact of not being able to travel to the United States to play these two events has currently taken its toll on Novak Djokovic, although that does not mean that he will retake the first position as soon as he can. Taking into account the previous performances of Nole, with 2430 points in the ATP Race, and Daniil on the clay court tour, Novak is the favorite to lead the race to Turin in a few weeks, although he will have to start plugged in so that no more appear rivals in the equation.

A SECOND LINE WITH POSSIBLE LEADERS

Carlos Alcaraz appears in third place on the list. Despite missing the first Australian tournaments due to injury, the young Spaniard is not too far from the top of the table. With 1910 points, he is just over 500 behind Novak Djokovic, which promises some exciting clashes in the upcoming tournaments with this fight on the line as well. Less than 200 points behind Alcaraz is Jannik Sinner. The Italian has shown a great level at the Miami Open 2023, although he leaves bittersweet feelings after his performance in the grand final.

As of today, the squad classified for the Turin finals would be completed by Stefanos Tsitsipas, Taylor Fritz, Tommy Paul and Cameron Norrie, with Rafael Nadal currently occupying position number 339 on the list with 45 points, something that could change considerably in the he turns to the ground if the injuries respect him.
