Athletes with disabilities have access to the sports facilities of the National Hospital for Paraplegics

The National Hospital for Paraplegics continues to advance in the promotion of inclusive sport by making its sports facilities available to people with physical disabilities, regardless of their hospitalization in the center.

The hospital has stated that, although admitted patients have priority access to sports facilities during their care process, other athletes with physical disabilities will be allowed to use the tracks and sports equipment, as long as their use does not affect the normal development of hospital activity.

Those interested in making use of the center’s sports resources must apply through the Hospital’s Complementary Rehabilitation Service, where they will receive information on the sports activities available, the hours, and the conditions of use.

The National Hospital for Paraplegics has facilities for practicing different sports and permanent activities, such as table tennis, wheelchair tennis on the outdoor court, paddle tennis, Olympic shooting, basketball, badminton, handbike, powerlifting, boccia, swimming, hiking, boxing and fitness. In addition, outdoor sports such as archery, canoeing, fencing, hippotherapy, skiing, scuba diving and orienteering races are occasionally practiced.

The center specializing in spinal cord injury has collaboration agreements with various entities, such as the Spanish Paralympic Committee, the Spanish Federation of Athletes with Physical Disabilities (FEDDF), ASPAYM, the Madrid Swimming Federation (FDI), the Loida Zabala Foundation for Powerlifting, the Spanish Badminton Federation, the Emilio Sánchez Vicario Foundation and the Spanish Padel Federation.
