As in Orléans and Amilly, the France of ju-jitsu is angry with the French Judo Federation

It’s not just Clarisse Agbegnenou, the double Olympic champion (individual and team) and five-time world judo champion, who is angry with the French Federation. Since the selection procedures for the senior world championships in Mongolia have been communicated, the jujitsukas also thunder at the little consideration reserved for them.

The anger is even so strong on social networks that some are talking about the possibility of boycotting the Grand Prix de Paris at the end of the week. However, the tournament is the gateway to the entire international ju-jitsu season.

The weight categories retained
Ne waza: -52, -57 and 63 kg female, and -69, -77 and -85 kg male.
Combat: -52, -57 and -63 kg female, -62, -69 and -77 kg male.

But what good is it, if the Federation has decided on the spot, by only authorizing one athlete per weight category, and again, for the only ones who are proposed for the 2025 World Games? And if clubs had the idea of registering the left behind themselves by financing their travel (if they are able to do so), the Federation forbids them!

Orléans and Amilly directly affected

At US Orléans as at J3S Amilly, while understanding the inevitable budgetary considerations and the choices they impose, we share the general indignation all the more that the two clubs, which are benchmarks in France for the high level and training, are directly affected. “It’s a double penalty, indignant Nicolas Péréa, the coach of the Gâtinais club. An athlete who cannot participate in the World Games cannot even make the world championships…”

Like Chloé Lalande (USO, -70 kg), Ryan Chérif, European champion and world bronze medalist in -56 kg, is concerned; Mégane Giet (-63 kg), she is in balance with Juliana Ferreira, the Orleans.

For the youth world championships (U 16, U 18 and U 21) of ju-jitsu organized in August in Astana, Kazakhstan, the French Judo Federation has also decided that the costs will be borne by the clubs.

Any world number 2 that he is, loaded with titles and medals, Percy Kunsa could also live a white season since at the top of -77 kg, they are two… French. “Inadmissible”, reacted on Facebook the leader of the USO. Because the arbitration carried out is aberrant in that it can deprive a candidate for gold of selection and offer a ticket to Mongolia to an athlete who does not – or not yet – have the world level, but whose weight category is on the program of the World Games.

“Some will lose their status as top athletes,” points out Nicolas Péréa. With all that ensues – scheduling and scholarships – while the money does not flow freely on the mats: a bonus of 5,000 euros rewards a world title, no more.

“We are not asking to be treated like judo, but we would like more fairness. Judo stems from ju-jitsu, but if it is ancestral, our discipline has always been minor.”

Nicolas Perea (Amilly coach)

Probably because not Olympic. “But here, we are being killed!” The coach of Amilly indeed fears that many athletes, demotivated, will return their kimono. In his club, and in many others.
