Argentario Golf&Wellness: the Italian resort with the scent of luxury and nature

Between Florence and Rome, between Tuscany and Lazio, near Porto Ercole on the shores of the Mediterranean, Augusto Orsini, an Italian entrepreneur crazy about this region far from the main tourist circuits and offering preserved natural landscapes decided, 20 years ago, to build a rare vacation spot devoted to his passions: golf, the environment, fitness, food and comfort.

So in the early 2000s, Argentario Golf & Wellness Resort began to grow in the heart of a 70-hectare estate 1h30 from Rome airport. “A kind of Gleneagles, Terre Blanche or PGA Catalunya under the sun”according John Dibiasethe current head of the establishment.

Designed by Italian architect David Mezzacane a golf course emerged in 2006 and the resort followed.

Today, the result of investments dictated by the passion for a land and a lifestyle invites you to visit. Argentario offers excellence in all areas.

The great American chain Marriott noticed this, who will soon become manager of hotel facilities. International recognition that adds to professional awards and glowing articles from the travel media. We bet that the Ryder Cup which will take place in September at the Marco Simone GC near Rome will give the opportunity to the many international and Italian visitors to discover this discreet and harmonious luxury resort.

Before leaving to play, it is worth highlighting a detail that will satisfy the French clientele: a majority of Argentario employees speak our language impeccably. Rare enough to be reported!

The only National PGA course in Italy

But let’s start at the beginning for our fellow readers of Golf Planète! and take out our golf bag to test the 18-hole course thatOttavio Coppolathe experienced golf director, proudly presents: “We were honored by obtaining a unique title: the only PGA course in Italy. This immediately puts our offer in the foreground. This pride devotes years of effort to improving this course which, moreover, meets the most demanding environmental standards”.

We took great pleasure in playing this golf course in which no hole is alike and which ends in a trio as diverse as it is successful: the 16 a par 4 whose drive must be long and precise to avoid certain punishment, the 17 a par 3 of 171 meters, tricky between water, bunkers and terrible green slopes and a finishing hole where the drive must find its place between trees and stream and a second shot that many bunkers welcome: the par 4 is not given before returning to the clubhouse. Lots of beauty and strategy to end a walk in this countryside of Maremma, between sea entrance, hill of olive trees and oaks, and the village of Ortobello. Village which appears in its splendor at hole n°2, a long par 3 where we will take some photos for the memory.

Keep the device open as you walk to the next hole: a long par 5 that offers splendid views of the lagoon. Blue, green and gold! The outward will satisfy strikers and strong, the return will reward the strategists. Special mention at hole 13.

Hole 2

For pros and amateurs looking for a training center, we should also point out that the Academy equipped with all the contemporary technologies is open to them.
Augusto Orsini’s first bet has been won: the 18-hole course is an undeniable success. A French pro met since our visit told us a lot of good things about it. “Argentario is a good example of a successful course when one seeks to combine the sporting challenge and the pleasure of all”. In a preserved setting where nature has kept its predominance thanks to the will of a passionate owner who respects his country. The golf course is BioAgriCert certified.
For nomadic golfers who would like to visit courses in the region, we should mention the golf courses of Punta Ala and that of Terme di Saturnia. But the most beautiful remains the Royal Golf La Bagnaia, designed by Robert Trent Jones jr.

Large and bright rooms with terrace overlooking the golf course

The Argentario GC has a hotel whose rooms are very well laid out in an arc and all have a terrace with a view of the golf course and the lagoon. They are large and bright, ranging from 35m2 to 70m2. Villas and cottages are also offered to passing guests who will appreciate a minimalist and chic decoration.

As for the restaurants, the Dama Dama, Argentario’s gastronomic table, gives you an appointment with the flavors of the Mediterranean and Tuscany where local produce is king. Chef Emiliano Lombardelli will like you to taste, among other things, his Caldaro fish soup, his Abiello spaghetti with sea urchins, or his beef tartare with asparagus and truffles. Many dishes are naturally inspired by the diversity of local seafood.
The clubhouse restaurant seduced us with its sporty and modern chic atmosphere. His bartender has a communicative science of cocktails of all colors!
There’s nothing better than sharing a few with playing partners on the terrace overlooking the course and the regions of Orbetello and Talamone.

Finally, know that at Argentario GC, an important place is dedicated to fitness and care: a space of 2,700 m2 brings together everything you can imagine: sauna, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, massage cabins and UV etc.
We were even offered on our arrival to carry out medical analyzes to detect the PH and thus find the best diet to adopt during our stay. At the start, it is then recommended to redo an analysis which will prove the benefits acquired during the stay! Nutritionist, dietician, osteo are at your service during your Tuscan stopover.
Athletes without limits can also try tennis, padel, football, jogging, electric bikes, horse riding, polo…

The Argentario GC combines a perfect balance between the discovery of a preserved place in the heart of a civilization which fortunately refuses to disappear, a philosophy which respects Nature, a playful and well-designed golf course and an excellent tourist offer. Forbidden to noise lovers and mass gatherings. Make way for the exceptional, chosen and discreet.

Visit Rome and play the Ryder Cup course!

It is obvious that when traveling to Argentario by plane or car, a jump is strongly recommended to play the course of the Ryder Cup 2023 which will take place at the end of September at the Marco Simone GC a few kilometers from Rome. We saw the hard work of Alejandro and Lara Reyes there: the speed of the greens is already there, the roughs are taking shape and the fairways are greening. The whole could look like a much more hilly, more strategic National.

You will find here the article by David Charpenet who walked the fairways in preview and invites you to discover what will be the major event in world golf this year.

Finally, needless to add that Rome also deserves a stay of at least a few days to (re)see the monuments that have marked our civilization, to get lost in these timeless streets that still smell of life before the homo technologicus and to taste osso bucco, chianti and ice cream in small restaurants in Piazza Navona or Piazza del Popolo or Piazza di Spagna. Or to admire the loves of Gregory Peck et Audrey Hephurn : how beautiful they were in this legendary film by William Wyler!

Have a good trip everyone!
