Portugal is a candidate to host the final of the Women’s Champions League in 2025, at Estádio José Alvalade, in Lisbon, announced this Wednesday the Prime Minister, António Costa, at the 47th UEFA Congress, in Lisbon.
In the opening speech of the meeting that will re-elect Slovenian Aleksander Ceferin as president of the body that governs European football for the four-year period until 2027, António Costa revealed Portugal’s candidacy to once again organize the women’s Champions final.
“At a time of great brilliance of our national women’s football team – which I congratulate for, for the first time, having qualified for a final phase of the World Cup – we are again candidates for the organization of the final of the Women’s Champions League in 2025, a competition that we have successfully received in the past”, said António Costa.
The prime minister was optimistic in choosing Portugal and the José Alvalade Stadium, in Lisbon, for this match, which has already been played in the Portuguese capital, at Estádio do Restelo, when the Germans from Wolfsburg beat the Swedish from Tyreso , by 4-3, in the decisive encounter.
“We are confident that this will be another candidacy with a positive outcome”, concluded António Costa.
The 47th UEFA Congress takes place at the Lisbon Congress Centre. Yesterday, the UEFA Executive Committee attributed the organization of the 2025 UEFA European Championship to Switzerland, to the detriment of the joint candidacy of Denmark, Finland, Norway and Sweden, in the third and final vote, after having fallen by the wayside from Poland and France.
