Anderlecht warned by its former captain: “strong men” must not leave under any circumstances

The summer will be hectic at Sporting Anderlecht. The club could see many executives jump ship. Among them, the two very promising youngsters, Zeno Debast and Bart Verbruggen.

At the idea of seeing these two players with high potential – sporting but also financial – leaving Anderlecht this summer, Olivier Deschacht wanted to send a clear message to the purple management.

That would indeed be a very big mistake. The club would condemn itself to rebuilding established foundations from scratch. “Marc Coucke and Wouter Vandenhaute now have to do everything to keep the men strong,” Deschaht told the Newspaper. “Verbruggen and Debast, as well as Arnstad, Verschaeren and Amuzu, have made great progress. That’s the only positive thing this season.”

According to the former captain of the Mauves, it is precisely around these players that the team must rebuild itself, even if it means spending money on the transfer window. “You just need to keep the squad and get around four reinforcements: two full-backs, a ten and a forward. If that requires another financial injection, then so be it.”
