Alavés takes advantage of Granada’s stumble in Santander and gets into direct promotion

Lugo consummates its relegation to First RFEF

MADRID, 24 Abr. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Deportivo Alavés beat Leganés in Mendizorrotza this Sunday (2-1) and rose to second place in LaLiga SmartBank, on a thirty-seventh day in which Granada fell to Real Racing in Santander (1- 0) and has ceded its place for direct promotion to the people of Vitoria.

A double from Rober González allowed the babazorro team to neutralize the goal from ‘pepinero’ Jorge Miramón and leave behind their two draws in recent weeks. The striker from Extremadura opened the scoring in Vitoria in the 40th minute when he headed in a cross from Asier Villalibre.

Miramón managed to balance the contest shortly after the game resumed (min.54), but once again Rober González, in minute 83, successfully finished off a local counterattack to rescue the three points. In this way, Luis García Plaza’s men rise to second place (65), just one point behind leader Eibar (66), after also taking advantage of the setbacks of Granada (64) and Las Palmas (63).

Precisely, the Nasrid conceded in Santander (1-0) their third defeat in the last four games, which have knocked them out of the direct promotion zone. In a duel in which they were playing for the lead, the Andalusians were unable to generate a single chance and gave in to Roko Baturina’s solitary goal.

At the Anxo Carro, Lugo confirmed their relegation to the RFEF First Division, ending their eleven-year stay in the Second Division, after losing to a Málaga team that continues to dream of saving itself (0-2). Goals from Rubén Castro and Fran Villalba allow the Blue and Whites to stay five units from the safety zone.

Lastly, in the Burgos derby, Mirandés beat Burgos (2-1) with a brace from Raúl in nine minutes that neutralized Curro’s goal after the break.
