The football players of Ajax booked an important victory in the Eredivisie on Saturday. The team from Amsterdam won 1-2 against Fortuna Sittard and thus takes the lead for at least a day.
Romee Leuchter was responsible for both Ajax goals. The Orange international equalized from a penalty kick in the 52nd minute and determined the final score twelve minutes later. Tessa Wullaert had opened the score for the home team in the first half.
Because of the victory, Ajax Women has one point more than number two FC Twente (49 to 48). The team from Enschede, which only conceded four goals this season, will visit number six PEC Zwolle on Sunday at 12.15 p.m. and can take over the lead again with at least a draw.
Both Ajax and FC Twente only lost once this season. Next Saturday, both teams will play against each other in Amsterdam. After that, there is one more round to go.
