Adrie van der Poel has nice words for Mathieu, Wout van Aert and Tadej Pogacar: “We have to enjoy them more and pit them against each other less”

After a new triumph of Mathieu van der Poel in Paris-Roubaix, the comparison with Wout van Aert was already there. The Dutchman has already completed four Monuments (2x de Ronde, 1x Roubaix, 1x Milan-Sanremo), while Van Aert only has La Primavera on his palmares. Both top riders are constantly compared with each other. “Wout Van Aert will never catch up with Mathieu Van der Poel in the Monuments again”, it sounded like this in our Café Koers podcast.

However, father Adrie van der Poel does not agree with all those comparisons between Wout and Mathieu. He calls on Wielerflits not to constantly put the Big Three, including Tadej Pogacar, next to each other.

“What Pogacar does, what Wout does, what Mathieu does… Really guys, we should enjoy that much more”, says Van der Poel senior. “We also have to pit them against each other a lot less. I have deep respect for them.”
