A member of the “Citi zēni” group has become the Latvian champion in discus throwing

Last weekend in Jelgava and Platone, the first major Latvian athletics competition was held in the open air. Since 2005, Latvian discus, hammer and javelin throwers are fighting for the so-called winter throwing championship titles and medals for the 17th time.

On Saturday, only discus throwers competed in Jelgava. The competition was started by young people, continued and also finished by juniors and adults.

As the last men competed, Ralfs Eduards Gauja was in a safe leading position in the first throws – 45.52 m. However, with the penultimate, fifth shot, the honor of the leader passed to Dagnis Roziņš. A new personal record – 45.59 m (previously it was 45.52 m), which he increased to 47.14 m at the end of the competition.

Roziņš is a soloist and saxophonist of the popular group “Citi zēni” by day. However, ten years ago he won eighth place in the discus throw at the European Youth Olympic Festival in Utrecht.

Dagnis’s coach is his father, but the musician’s sister Liene became the Latvian champion in hammer throwing in 2016.
