A game to forget for the Twins

BOSTON | It was a sunny afternoon at Fenway Park, but the breeze just wasn’t blowing behind Edouard Julien and the Minnesota Twins on Thursday. Result: The Boston Red Sox won by the score of 11 to 5.

Nothing seemed to work for the Twins. To illustrate the look of the game, let’s recap the very last game.

With the bases loaded and two out, in the top of the ninth inning, Julien hits a single to center field and drives in a run.

However, runner Max Kepler, starting from second base, was foolishly caught between third base and home plate, following a bad run. Curious end, like the course of the meeting.

Earlier, it was an injury to starter Kenda Maeda that hurt the Twins badly. The Japanese had to leave the game after two sets, due to a ball hit hard on his left ankle.

“The good news is that there is no fracture, commented the Japanese gunner himself, met near the visitors’ locker room. We’ll take it one day at a time, to reduce the swelling. »

Relief

Maeda’s health was manager Rocco Baldelli’s main concern after the loss.

“We were worried when he crashed to the ground, but when the pain subsided he was able to walk a bit and that’s positive,” agreed the manager.

Another bizarre sequence involving Julien: he very nearly made a spectacular defensive catch at second base, but the ball came out of his glove following a dive. It was in the third inning and the Red Sox, who could have had their wings clipped, instead followed with a six-run push.

While the loss was credited to Maeda (0-3), reliever Emilio Pagan didn’t do the job for the Twins, allowing six earned runs in one and two-thirds innings.

Julien also experienced his batting difficulties, being struck out three times. His single, in the ninth inning, came on time. His batting average is now .222, thanks to six hits in 27 appearances.

Remember also that the Quebecer was reported in a 10-4 win for the Twins, Wednesday night, with three hits, including his second career home run in major league baseball.

“I was able to hit the ball in front of me, the result was very good,” admitted Julien, about his home run of 418 feet at the expense of pitcher Corey Kluber.

Back to Minnesota

Now that this three-game series against the Red Sox is over, Julien and his teammates will return home for the next 10 days.

The Washington Nationals will be in Minnesota on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The New York Yankees and Kansas City Royals will follow.
