The winner of the first WTA 1000 tournament in 2023 is Yelena Rybakina!
The Kazakh wins the tournament in Indian Wells with a final win over Aryna Sabalenka. It was the repeat of the final of this year’s Australian Open, where the Belarusian had the better end for herself.
Rybakina won the final in California with 7:6(11) and 6:4. It is the second biggest title of her career after the Wimbledon triumph in 2022.
Sabalenka manages the break to make it 3:2 in the first set, but the Kazakh counters with a re-break to make it 4:4. The sentence finally goes into a tie-break that has it all. With 13:11 Rybakina wins the decider.
In the second set, the Kazakh made the breaks to make it 1-0 and 5-2, while Sabalenka still managed the re-break to make it 3-5. In the end, Rybakina uses the first match ball after two hours and six minutes.
