Wilmots fillets Devils: “Maybe still need him”

The Red Devils have started their new chapter in a great way. Both during the European Championship qualifying match in Sweden (0-3) and during the exhibition game against Germany (2-3), the Belgians showed excellent football at times. Former national coach Marc Wilmots was also enthusiastic about what he saw.

Logically, there were also lesser points in both international matches. In the second half against the Germans, for example, it was regularly sink or swim, but the Devils did show resilience. And those lesser moments were overshadowed by the positive things. The tactical adjustments made by national coach Domenico Tedesco and the fresh blood in the selection therefore immediately seem to be paying off. Moreover, the experienced forces at the core seem to take their responsibility.

Wilmots, now active as an analyst, added RTBF so some positive points in the paint. “I remember that Romelu Lukaku came back to life with four goals in two games,” said Kampfschwein. “Of the ‘novelties’ that surprised me I point to Wout Faes. He provided speed in the ashes and plays with a lot of experience, with a lot of calm. Arthur Theate also charmed me.”

DON’T FORGET WHITE

The former national coach and international can therefore agree with the innovations, especially in the back. Yet he would not completely write off the passed Axel Witsel. “I am satisfied with the back line. We have the least choice there and the youngsters have shown that we can count on them. But I also think of Witsel, we may still be able to use him.”
