Will Novak Djokovic arrive by boat?

As of now, Novak Djokovic is not allowed to start at the Masters in Indian Wells or in Miami. One Republican wants to change that — and makes a special proposal.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has asked US President Joe Biden to give Novak Djokovic the go-ahead. In a letter to Biden, the Republican wrote that it was “unfair, unscientific and unacceptable” that the unvaccinated top tennis star from Serbia could not take part in the Masters in Miami. He also published this on Twitter.

DeSantis demands: “Let him play”

Djokovic had previously received no exemption from Homeland Security. He will be absent from the Masters in Indian Wells, which starts on Wednesday, and he is threatened with the same for Miami (from March 22). The decision about this has long since developed into a political issue.

“Let him play,” DeSantis wrote. Djokovic is only a danger to his opponents on the tennis courts, but not to public safety. The United States continues to ban people who have not been vaccinated against the coronavirus from entering the country. This regulation applies at least until mid-April.

However, DeSantis believes that this is not the case for entry by water. He demanded confirmation from Biden by Friday that Djokovic’s entry by boat would be permitted.
