II don’t know exactly how I ended up at White Turf in St. Moritz, I just know that from the start I thought it was a maybe brilliant and certainly insane idea at the same time. Horses running on a frozen lake. People who let themselves be pulled behind on skis. Champagne, caviar, high society – if you don’t immediately pull 990 Swiss francs out of your left trouser pocket for a VIP ticket, you can’t be helped anymore.
So, Sunday, February 19, 2023, 10:30 a.m., overall in a perfect mood: we can start. The sun is beating down fantastically from a light blue sky, on the mountains around St. Moritz the skiers are wagging down the slopes, the snow is still holding to some extent. A first look down at Lake St. Moritz from the train station, yes, it’s actually frozen over, and yes, it looks great.
