We hope to welcome around 30,000 participants / Day in the Riga Marathon this year

As the organizers of the event told at the press conference, the organizers of the Riga Marathon on May 6 and May 7 hope to meet a record number of participants on the starting line after the pandemic. It is estimated that at least 6,000 guests from abroad will come to Riga during the marathon weekend.

The organizers’ forecasts show that the mile distance will experience the greatest growth in participants, which could gather almost 3,000 participants on May 6. On the Olympic Children’s Day, which will take place on May 6 at the Freedom Monument, the organizers have fixed the limit of participants – 8,000 participants.

On May 7, the distances of 10 and 5 kilometers will be the most represented, with 5,000 and 8,000 runners expected respectively, while in the longer distances – half-marathon and marathon – around 4,000 and 1,500 participants are expected, respectively.

On the other hand, around 500 teams of Latvian companies will compete in the “Rimi” team cup. Teams will compete in three categories – from 15 to 29 participants, from 30 to 49 participants and over 50 participants. In the team competition, the winners will be determined based on the individual results of the participants in the age groups.

The finishers of all distances will receive medals designed by the graphic designer Paulis Liepa. “The drop of sweat as the central image of the medal is a tribute to the perseverance, endurance and sweat of the runners,” explained the author of the medal’s design.

Celebrating the recovery of national sports from the pandemic, the organizers invite the participants to come to the start of the event in witty, bright, creative and unusual festive outfits.
