WBSC publishes world ranking after the World Baseball Classic 2023

One week after the end of the 2023 World Baseball Classic, one of the most competitive editions in the history of the tournament, the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSCfor its acronym in English) published the new ranking mundial of men’s baseball teams who leads Japan, Mexico gave the surprise by ascending for the first time to third place, while Venezuela remained in sixth place and Dominican Republic dropped to tenth position.

This classification only take into account points added by each country during the last four years in their shares in tournaments officiated by WBSCfrom the U12 to the older teams.

The title helped Japan to stay in the first place in the ranking for the eighth year in a rowa position from which they have not moved since December 31, 2014. For their part, The United States returned to second place after almost two years in lower positions.

For Mexicohe third place is the highest position in its history for any national team.

Venezuelain it sixth rungkeeps his best position in the ranking for the third cut in a row after having finished their participation in the quarterfinals against the United States. The Venezuelan team has been entrenched in that position since December 31, 2022.

After their painful elimination in the first round of the World Classic, the Dominican Republic fell back to tenth position after having reached sixth place in the last part of 2021. The quisqueyanos have been relegated four steps in almost a year.
