Van Hooydonck hands out a lot of energy to Matthews: “You really shouldn’t do that” | Paris-Nice

In the 2nd stage of Paris-Nice there was an intermediate sprint 10 km from the end. A sprint of importance for the classification men, because bonus seconds could be earned.

Tadej Pogacar mixed just like yesterday, Jonas Vingegaard did not. His teammate Nathan Van Hooydonck then tried to avoid Pogacar taking the full prize, but went over the line.

He dealt a solid thud to Michael Matthews, who tried to come alongside. “Don’t get too aggressive”, said a surprised José De Cauwer.

Matthews came off unscathed and finished 2nd in the sprint, after Pogacar and ahead of Van Hooydonck. The Belgian immediately apologized.

“You have to be careful with that,” says De Cauwer: “You really shouldn’t do that, the VAR is watching.”
