This victory places the stars and stripes team as the leader of Group C and one step away from the quarterfinals of the World Baseball Classic 2023.

Likewise, the American team improved its record to two wins and one loss after the one suffered against Mexico on Sunday 11-5, this being the best offensive work of the “Tri” in the tournament.

For its part, the Canadian team worsened to a victory and a loss before a crowd of 29 thousand 691 people at Chase Field in Phoenix.

The American team sent 12 batters to the plate in the first inning.

Third baseman Nolan Arenado doubled to open the scoring and superstar Mike Trout rounded it out with a fastball to the left-center field stand.

For his part, Lance Lynn won the victory, allowed one run and two hits and reserved the bullpen for the last game of the group stage, which will face Colombia on Wednesday.

United States manager Mark DeRosa had to use eight pitchers in the loss to Mexico.

For its part, the Canadian team scored its only run on Jared Young’s home run. Left-hander Mitch Bratt took the loss, giving up six earned runs and getting just one out.

The knockout mercy rule in the 2023 World Baseball Classic is a 10-run deficit after seven innings, so the game ended after Canada batted in the top of the seventh.

So far in the tournament there have been four knockout victories, including this one from the United States.

The first win under that measure was Australia’s 12-2 victory over China, then, in the same group, China was knocked out again on the last date against South Korea with a 22-2 fifth inning.

Likewise, Puerto Rico won by knockout against Israel, manufacturing 10 runs and not allowing any, to end the match in the seventh inning.
