Uruguay beat South Korea, by an international friendly

Uruguay beat South Korea 2-1, for international friendly. The Asians and the Celeste met at the Goyang Stadium after having shared Group H in the Qatar 2022 World Cup, in which Korea qualified over Uruguay by goals in favor in a very even zone. With goals from Sebastián Coates and Matías Vecino, the South Americans had a kind of “rematch”. Next, I relived the best of the match, minute by minute.

In a repeat of the first match between the two teams in the last World Cup in Qatar, which ended in a goalless draw, Uruguay drowned out the Asians in the opening minutes, keeping the pressure high, with Torres and Rodríguez agile and imaginative in the sides and a Valverde, as usual, who seems omnipresent.

His left-footed volley after seven minutes that goalkeeper Cho cleared with difficulty was the warning of what was to come. With the South Koreans overwhelmed by the Uruguayan push, the Uruguayan captain took a corner from the left that Coates, free of mark, headed on goal in the 10th minute.

German Jurgen Klinsmann’s men had a hard time getting into the game, but little by little they began to breathe, especially when they found their most dizzying version, almost always articulated by the ingenuity of Son Heung-min or Lee Kang-in.

After a very inspired dribble down the right by the Majorcan player, the best South Korean opportunity of the first half came, when Lee Ki-je narrowly sent a left-footed shot wide.

The charrúas finished the first section in a very different way from how they started it, lost and disregarding the ball.

The restart continued in the same vein and South Korea soon found an equalizer when Girona defender Santi Bueno erred when clearing a cross from the left and allowed Lee Ki-je to put in a cross that Hwang In-beom finished off comfortably.

Uruguay continued to submit to the game rhythm of the Asians, but the entry of Agustín Cannobio changed things. A run of his as soon as he stepped on the field ended in a dangerous foul on the edge of the area.

Cho rejected the free kick from Piquerez and Matías Vecino, more attentive than anyone, he only had to push it to make it 1-2.

The goal did not do justice to the effort of the “Taeguk warriors”, to which the VAR also annulled a goal with a quarter of an hour to go due to the fact that the center-back Kim Young-gwon, very high on Mele, apparently touched it with the hand when heading to the net a corner.

Ten minutes later, Lee Kang-in found Oh Hyeon-gyu from the left in the heart of the sky area. The man from Scottish Celtic managed to turn wonderfully and score with a warped shot at Mele’s long stick, but again the video referee annulled the goal for apparent offside.

The South Koreans continued to put their hearts into it until the end, although the Uruguayan squad, dissolved and dedicated, withstood the attacks and added a victory that seemed like an excessive prize for Marcelo Broli’s men.
