UAEMéx consolidates the promotion of physical culture and sports among the university community

The well-being of the community of the Autonomous University of the State of Mexico (UAEMéx) requires intellectual development, skills and abilities, as well as the development of a healthy life in which sports practice is promoted. During the recent year, 50 inter-institutional sporting events were held in the Mexican Autonomous Community.

Likewise, the University Sports League and the “Somos UAEMéx” Athletic Mega Activation were held, with the participation of 28,442 university students.

Regarding competition and high performance sports, the institution participated in the 2022 National Universiade, based at the Autonomous University of Ciudad Juárez, in which the Auriverde athletes obtained 20 medals: four gold, five silver and 11 bronze, in athletics, boxing, table tennis, judo and wrestling.

In addition, five green and gold athletes participated in the FISU -International Federation of University Sports- America Games Mérida 2022, obtaining eight medals, three gold, three silver and two bronze.

It is worth mentioning that 24 university athletes participated in the National Games CONADE -National Commission for Physical Culture and Sports-, representing the State of Mexico.

The result of the Auriverde participation in this sports fair was nine medals -one gold, three silver and five bronze- in six disciplines -athletics, wrestling, cycling, archery, judo and fronton-, so the Mexican entity was positioned in fourth place nationwide.

On her way to the Olympic qualifications, Katia Castillo Bustos, a student at the Faculty of Urban and Regional Planning, obtained second place in the Pan American Judo Open, held in Guayaquil, Colombia.

In addition, at the XIX Basque Pelota World Absolute Championship, held in Biarritz, France, in 2022, Marifer Medina Noriega, a student at the Faculty of Behavioral Sciences, won the silver medal in the Women’s Individual Fronton category.

Finally, in high-performance sports, the participation of university coach Topacio Daniela Conde Ávila, promoter and lover of flag football, who won the gold medal at the World Games 2022 Flag Football, held in Birmingham, Alabama, is noteworthy.
