Tottenham boss Cristian Stellini: Who said Spurs are in crisis?!

Tottenham Hotspur manager Cristian Stellini insists the club is not in crisis, despite what many outside the club think.

  • Conte left Spurs earlier this week
  • Director of football Fabio Paratici also left
  • Out of all tournaments but still fourth in the Premier League

WHAT HAPPENED? With key figures at the club leaving this week, many people are concerned about what will become of Spurs. Manager Antonio Conte finally left by mutual consent on Monday after thorny issues, and his steps have also been followed by director of football Fabio Paratici, who was recently banned from football for his involvement in the Juventus corruption scandal. However, Conte’s successor, Cristian Stellini, insisted before Paratici left that “Spurs are not in crisis”.

WHAT THEY SAID: “When you make decisions for the best, you are not in a crisis,” Stellini said at his press conference. “I think there is disappointment about the way the club is being run and I think this is bad. Something has to change.”

Discussing his role now in replacing Conte, he said: “They called me and said the decision has been taken and if you agree with us, you can do it. I don’t have to think about saying ‘Yes’.”

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Stellini was appointed as head coach until the end of this season following Conte’s departure. He has the ambition to secure the top four and make sure The Lilywhites qualification for next season’s Champions League – now Spurs have been knocked out of all other tournaments, and it’s clear that target is very important to them.
