Three goals in one period: a rare Quebec feat in the NHL

By scoring three goals in the same period on Tuesday night, David Perron joined Rafaël Harvey-Pinard in a select club. However, without knowing it, the two Quebec forwards have achieved an unusual feat.

They are the first two Quebecers to score three goals in the same period… in over 27 years!

Harvey-Pinard made headlines by hitting the target three times in the second period of a one-sided win over the Columbus Blue Jackets.

On the side of Perron, who wears the colors of the Detroit Red Wings, he scored his three goals in the third period in an offensive festival against the Pittsburgh Penguins.

You have to go back to the fall of 1995 to see such a feat again. At that time, it was not two, but three players from La Belle Province who had succeeded in this tour de force consecutively.

Mario Lemieux started the ball rolling against the New Jersey Devils. A few days later, Donald Audette had fun at the expense of the San Jose Sharks. Then, Claude Lemieux completed the trio with an outstanding game against the New York Islanders.

Lemieux and others

Mario Lemieux was a goal scoring machine. It’s not a big reveal. On the other hand, some of his statistics strike the imagination.

During his career, he scored three or more goals in the same period on eight occasions. During the 1996-97 season, number 66 achieved the feat consecutively against St. Louis and against the Canadian.

Besides Harvey-Pinard, Christian Dvorak was the only Canadian player to score three goals in the same period this season. It was Oct. 29 against St. Louis. The first since Max Pacioretty in the 2013-14 season.
