The Seclinian “Amazons” in Sri Lanka

Seclin’s “Amazons” in Sri Lanka to surpass themselves and help children

Their names are Laurence, Charlotte, Clémence, Marine and Capucine, and have been friends for… a very long time. Great athletes and big hearts, they leave from March 19 to 29 for Sri Lanka for an extraordinary adventure: the “Raid Amazones”, created in 2000 by Alexandre Debanne, famous television host. The “Raid Amazones” is both a physical test and a 100% female humanitarian journey, where the 225 participants will run, pedal, row, archery, hunt for treasures… and offer school supplies and other materials in the schools and dispensaries of this country.

A country which is not rich, of course, but with incredible landscapes, in particular the tea fields of Ceylon, where the raid will take place. For our 5 “Amazons”, it will be a great discovery, made possible thanks to the advice of another friend who had experience of it in 2022. “She motivated us to get started in our turn”launch in chorus the Seclinoises “all athletes and all mothers of children aged 4 to 24! » They are therefore particularly sensitive to the humanitarian aspect of the approach: “each team raises funds with sponsors to help an association linked to children in difficulty”they explain.

The “Angkorettes” team (Marine, Capucine and Clémence) thus supports “the new health sports program of the Oscar-Lambret Center of the Lille University Hospital (cancer institute)” and the “Happy Running” team (Laurence and Charlotte) supports “the evils association, the words to say it, which comes to the aid of abused children and which aims in particular to train and raise awareness against shaken baby syndrome. »

For about a year, the “Amazons” of Seclin have been preparing: “We run every morning, we cycle, and we have contacted clubs for canoeing (the Lille club) and for archery (Seclin). Moreover, we were very well received by the Seclinoise Archerie! », they exclaim before shooting their last arrows before the start. So not too stressed, girls? “No, we are not under too much pressure. Our goal is to succeed in going to the end of the raid, to support us, to surpass ourselves, to leave our comfort zone…” Let’s go for the great adventure, which we will tell you about when they return!
