After experiencing initial difficulties at the start of the season with Bayern Munich, the young 35-year-old technician seemed to have found solutions to raise the bar. But despite the eight victories (out of 8) in the Champions League and therefore the victory against PSG in the round of 16, the former coach of Leipzig was not unanimous in his club. Far from there. And this Thursday evening, the German press released a big bomb. Bayern Munich have decided to sack their coach with immediate effect. The contracts must be signed and everything is already closed for his successor.
After releasing the information in a fairly raw way, the German daily BILD revealed the reasons that prompted the Bavarian management to act so quickly and so curtly. Since the start of 2023, Bayern Munich have lost 10 points in the Championship. Too much for a club like Bayern. To make matters worse, Borussia Dortmund have regained the lead in the standings with a direct confrontation which is coming in a few days. The club hold Julian Nagelsmann as the main responsible for this situation. And the results in C1 did not save his skin. The management even felt that this international break was the perfect opportunity to part ways with their coach and allow their successor to have time to prepare for the resumption.
The fear of losing Tuchel again
Bayern Munich did not want to waste time and considered that this truce was the right one since the big sporting deadlines are coming soon: the double confrontation against Manchester City in C1, the decisive shock in the Bundesliga against Dortmund and the match of German Cup against Freiburg (quarter-final). Proof that the decision was taken quickly, the German media specifies that Julian Nagelsmann was absolutely unaware of this decision until Thursday evening. Just yesterday, he was quietly skiing in Austria and certainly did not expect to receive this news a day later.
Finally, an important point: his successor. The Bavarians decided to quickly move on so as not to miss Thomas Tuchel again. The former PSG coach is the replacement for Nagelsmann and it should be formalized this Friday. He will host his first session early next week. BILD adds that Bayern Munich were afraid to see Thomas Tuchel still escape them this summer, while Real Madrid will undoubtedly part with Carlo Ancelotti at the end of the season and will seek a new coach. Tottenham, who are looking for a replacement for Conte on departure, had also started discussions with the ex-Chelsea coach. Something to scare Bayern, who therefore decided to secure their backs so as not to relive the 2018 scenario (PSG had recovered it from the nose and beard of Bayern Munich).
