The choice of Keller has divisive potential

With 18:16 votes and two abstentions, Christian Keller from 1. This vote has potential for division. A dozen first division teams who had spoken out in favor of Filbry were dismissed when choosing Fredi Bobic’s successor as a member of the DFL supervisory board, because the vacant post is elected with the votes of the first and second divisions. In addition to six first division clubs, twelve second division clubs have heaved Keller into the new office. While for some this is an expression of democracy, others emphasized that the 2nd division disregarded the vote of the upper house, which could result in a tit-for-tat…

However, it is also a fact that Keller was not the candidate for the second division, as is often assumed. After all, he was suggested by FC Augsburg, among others, and as managing director of 1. FC Köln, he also knew that his own first division club was behind him. The Cologne team had left the “Team Marktwert”, which was renamed “Team fan-intensive clubs”, and have had a man in Keller at the top for almost a year, who had worked successfully for many years for Jahn Regensburg. Many second division teams obviously believe that their worries and problems are more understood by Keller than by Filbry.

In his application speech, Keller is said to have moved away from his skepticism about the plan to sell part of the TV rights to an investor in the non-public session and spoke of an open-ended process. After the end of the meeting, however, he did not want to reveal his current opinion on this and rejected all statements. He is well aware of the delicate task he faces.
